Gone With the Wind

Gone With the Wind, an American epic and a story about a spoiled Southern girl's hopeless love for a married man. In the month April of 1861, at the Southern estate of Tara, where Scarlett O'Hara (Vivien Leigh) hears that her casual beau Ashley Wilkes (Leslie Howard) intends to marry Melanie Hamilton (Olivia de Havilland). Ignoring the warnings from her father (Thomas Mitchell), Scarlett intends to throw herself at Ashley at an upcoming barbecue at Twelve Oaks to advance her purposes. Alone with Ashley, she goes into a fit of histrionics, "We're bad lots, both of us", she says. The movie's famous action goes on from the burning of Atlanta through the now-classic closing line, "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn", and frankly this is the line that started the avalanche of cursing on film and tv. Nonetheless, Gone With the Wind stands among the greatest epic dramas ever filmed.
