Not Without My Daughter is based on Betty Mahmoody's true story of her plight in Iran, Staring Sally Field as an American wife married to (Alfred Molina) an Iranian doctor. Moody (Alfred Molina) decides to take his wife Betty and daughter to Iran for a short visit.
Betty is skeptical to leave America and go to Iran, but she is persuaded that they will only be gone for two weeks, so she agrees to go. Moody, after 20 years of being Americanized, comes to Iran with good intentions ( you think) but changes into a true Iranian husband, dominating, controlling and abusive encouraged by his Islamic religion, family, traditions and of course culture. After arriving in Iran he forces his wife to wear a chador (a dark long cloak that muslim woman wear). Near the end of the two weeks he informs Betty that they are not going back to America but staying in Iran indefinitely.
A real life story of how Betty Mahmoody endured the brutality of this muslim culture and its superiority over second class citizens and how she managed to escape with her daughter after 18 months of struggle. Not Without My Daughter depicts a very important side the Islamic community, something terrifying that must not be ignored. Many people, including Hollywood, do not recognize the truth of this story. Even Sally Field who did an excellent job playing this role, being a liberal she cannot recognize the concern and threat of these islamic fundamentalist nations! The feminist and liberals of this country don't care at all about the woman who are TURLY being discriminated against. They ignore the evil and the islamic religion and hate the American ideals and freedom it gives to its citizens. This film is so amazing for the family but it is also listed under chick flicks films because of the beautiful mother daughter relationship seen in the story and the character of Betty Mahmoody and her heroic courage. Watch Not Without My Daughter you'll love it.

FAMILY VALUES: 9 - VERY ( Mother stays faithful to her daughter, not leaving her behind. Risking her own life to get out of the hateful country of Iran )
