Sergeant York is a moving true story of a war hero Alvin York who is played by Gary Cooper. Young Alvin was born and raised in the backwoods of Tennessee before WWI. He was a great and precise shooter, but a drinker and a fighter. Alvin eventually came to know his Lord, which transformed his life, while World War I was knocking at America's front door. Young Alvin, now the one whom the town looked up to for leadership, refused to enlist in the military because he understood that war was wrong and a sin against God. After being drafted Alvin came to the realization after much contemplation and prayer that fighting a war to destroy evil was fighting God's battle and in this way he was a soldier for the Lord. On the battle field Alvin proved his old pacifist beliefs wrong by fighting a fight singlehandedly in the last allied offensive of World War I. Shooting down 25 German men and taking down a German machine gun battalion and capturing more than 100 german officers. Sergeant York is a perfect American example of our nations heroic history. As an actor Gary Cooper is amazing.
