The Fountainhead

The Fountainhead is Howard Roark (Gary Cooper) an independent architect patterned after Frank Lloyd Wright. Instead of compromising his ideals, Roark takes menial work as a quarryman to help him finance his projects. He also falls in love with heiress Dominique (Patricia Neal), however, he ends the relationship when he gets the opportunity to build as he wishes. Dominique then marries a newspaper tycoon (Raymond Massey) who conducts a vitriolic campaign against the "radical" Roark, but later becomes his strongest supporter. He later faces legal trouble but then is acquitted, while the newspaper tycoon, upset that he could offer Roark no help during the trial, kills himself. Here is an opportunity for a final clinch between Roark and Dominique on the skeleton of his latest building project. -NR-Not rated. This movie has not been rated by the MPAA.
