Doctor Zhivago is number 36 on the American Film Institutes (AFI)'s Top
100 Films of the Last 100 Years. This visually rich film plunges the
viewer into the totally different, exciting, and dangerous world of the
early twentieth century.
Based
on Boris Pasternak's Nobel Prize-winning novel, Doctor Zhivago is a
sumptuous, absorbing epic in the grand tradition of filmmaking. David
Lean, who is best known for his "Lawrence of Arabia" work, scores
another hundred on this film.Sharif and Christie are ravishing to
watch, as Lean turns an earth-shattering moment in world history into
high romantic drama.
Brimming with unforgettable images of the Russian steppes captured by
Oscar-winning lensman Carlo Ponti, Lean's snowy, romantic spectacle is
just what the "Doctor" ordered, with marvelous ensemble work by Rod
Steiger, Alec Guinness, Tom Courtenay, and Klaus Kinski.
On reviewing this movie, I find it to be a conservative film, but do
not take my word for it! take a look yourself and let me know what you
think.
